The State of Maine Room Intimate Wedding with Sarah and John
There’s something timeless about getting married at Portland City Hall. No big production — just love, commitment, and a handful of people who matter most. Sarah and John’s wedding was exactly that kind of day: simple, heartfelt, and full of meaning.
We met them at Post Office Park downtown, where the energy of the Old Port hums around every corner. From there, we wandered through the streets together, stopping for portraits along the way — at the Nickelodeon Theater marquee, past brick walls and shopfronts, and up toward Monument Square. It was easy and unhurried, just two people taking in the day before saying “I do.”
When we arrived at the State of Maine Room in Portland City Hall, their family and friends were waiting in the hallway. Everyone gathered together while the final paperwork was prepared, chatting quietly and smiling as the anticipation built. The ceremony itself was intimate and sincere. Sarah and John read personal vows to one another.
John promised to love Sarah through all the changes they would inevitably experience in their lives — every version of her, every iteration.
It was one of those small, quiet moments that stays with you.
After the ceremony, we stepped outside for family photos on the front steps of City Hall — the classic Portland backdrop. There was that happy buzz that always follows a wedding: hugs, warmth, and the easy joy of people who just witnessed something real.
We said our goodbyes there on the steps, hugged them both, and watched them walk off into married life. A city hall wedding might be short and simple, but when it’s this full of heart, it’s everything it needs to be.
