Peaks Island Wedding: Sam and Brice

People this pretty usually make me nervous. These two were pretty AND nice! Whew.

Some weddings feel like a deep breath.
Sam and Brice’s wedding on Peaks Island felt like a collective exhale—followed immediately by tequila shots.

They were married at The Inn on Peaks Island, which on a perfect Maine summer day feels like the exact right amount of removed-from-the-world while still being fully in it. Guests arrived excited, buzzing, happy to be there, happy to be together, happy to be on an island. That energy never really left.

Right before the ceremony, it rained. Not a dramatic downpour, just enough to make everyone look at the sky and collectively think, Of course. And then—because this is how these things go—it stopped. Chairs were dried, people settled back in, and the ceremony happened outside anyway, exactly as planned. Honestly, it felt earned.

There was joy everywhere that day, but there was also weight. Brice’s father had passed away fairly recently, and that kind of loss doesn’t disappear just because there’s a wedding happening. It lived quietly alongside everything else—felt, honored, not pushed away. The ceremony carried that balance beautifully: celebratory without being performative, emotional without tipping into spectacle. Just real.

And then, of course, there were tequila shots.

People were genuinely excited for Sam and Brice, the kind of excited that spills over into hugs that last a beat too long and cheers that come easily. You could feel how loved they are.

Portraits were relaxed and unfussy. Maine summer light doing its thing. Ocean nearby. Everyone riding that calm-after-the-rain feeling. Sam and Brice were present with each other in that quiet way that matters more than big gestures—checking in, laughing, staying close.

It was one of those days that reminded us why we love this work. Not because everything was perfect (it wasn’t), but because everything was honest. Joy and grief, excitement and stillness, sunshine and rain—all of it welcome.

Also: excellent tequila.
